After having my daughter, I quickly realized that I no longer had time to juggle a full-time job, helping my husband run a business, motherhood, and, of course, piano lessons.
Something had to give.
I am excited to announce that I am transitioning away from an office job to better pursue my passion for teaching piano.
Beginning in April, a 30-minute lesson will be $30.
I know that the increase may seem drastic, but it is not without a lot of reflection.
I first started teaching piano lessons in March 2004. Gas prices per gallon still started with “one.” Not that it mattered - I wasn’t old enough to drive! I taught piano lessons out of my home about a mile from the Solterra neighborhood. I eventually earned enough money to buy my first car, a bluish purple 1997 Jetta.
I love teaching piano in student homes! But now I arrange and pay for child care, I’m nine miles from Solterra, my Jetta has been replaced by a Jeep, and gas prices…
A lot has changed, but in 18 years, my rates to referred students had not increased a single cent. It was a side hobby that I was passionate about, and I wanted piano to be accessible to everyone. I still want that, and I am committed to making sure the quality of lessons reflects the resources that I and my students’ family put in.
I have been late to countless lessons. Meetings running late, finishing up a project or email, hitting rush hour traffic, etc., have all contributed to chronic tardiness. This opportunity will allow me renewed commitment to arriving for lessons punctually. I will also have increased availability for my students and their changing schedules.
Performing is a skill for piano and a skill for life. We will have a piano recital in December 2022, and in May and December going forward.
I have created customized lesson sheets for targeted weekly practice, Digital monthly progress reports will also be available for your review.
I am so fortunate to work with so many wonderful students and their families. I do not want any part of these changes to be prohibitive in continuing our musical relationship. I am happy to work on creating a plan to continue effective and accessible piano and music theory education.
